Skipton

Commonly known as the 'gateway to the Yorkshire Dales', the pretty market town of Skipton has plenty to offer its visitors. The landscape is dominated by the almost perfectly preserved 11th century Skipton Castle; this stunning landmark was involved in the War of the Roses and is now open daily to delight its many guests. With an abundance of independent, specialist retailers lining the leafy high street, as well as two large department stores situated centrally, Skipton is a haven for shoppers. On top of this, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, Skipton comes alive with bustling, colourful market stalls selling varied and interesting creations. To mix culture with shopping you must visit Craven Court, a beautiful Victorian style shopping centre, also located centrally. For a more relaxing experience, why not book a guided boat trip along the 1770 Leeds-Liverpool canal? Or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even hire you own cruiser for the day! Walkers will also love Skipton as it is surrounded by the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales countryside. To explore closer to home, take a stroll through Skipton woods, just behind the castle. Afterwards, refresh and revive at one of the many pubs, cafes and restaurants dotted around the town centre. Finally, Skipton has numerous guest houses, self catering cottages and hotels to pick from. Skipton is located just off the A59 on the A6131.
