The Gallery is especialy noted for its esteemed works by local born and internationally renowned sculptors Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. More of their work can be seen at the highly acclaimed Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Set in 500 acres of 18th century landscaped grounds, Bretton Hall offers a delightful combination of art and nature and boasts an innovative programme of international exhibitions. If the weather threatens to spoil your day, Bretton Hall has two indoor galleries and a cafe. Nostell Priory is an 18th century architectural masterpiece by James Paine and was built on the site of a medieval priory. It contains one of Englands finest collections of Chippendale furniture, a collection of art works by Pieter Breughel, an 18th century dolls house, a shop, tea rooms and relaxing gardens. |  |

The Ridings Centre offers a vast choice of shop's, with over 90 outlets this shopper's paradise promises something for everyone. With its modern shopping centre, fine museums and art centre, Wakefield ranks as one of the major city's in Yorkshire. Pontefract and Sandal are close by and both have Medieval castles, Pontefract also has a popular racecourse holding 16 meetings throughout the summer. The National Coal Mining Museum is also based near Wakefield and offers an exciting and educational underground tour of a mine. The tour covers the changing techniques and technologies used in the industry. |
