Staithes
Home > Staithes | Captain James Cook started his working career here, working in a shop belonging to William Sanderson. Due to the poor roads and no railways, many journeys were done by sea, and it is here where Cook started persuing an interest in the sea. Staithes takes it credit for introducing Captain James Cook to the sea. |
| As Staithes is a tiny seaside resort, there are no really big hotels. There are many holiday cottages which offer self-catering accommodation and a few restaurants in the village. The nearest train station is Lealholm, 7 miles away. Staithes lies just off the A174, inbetween Redcar and Whitby. |
