Runswick Bay

Home > Runswick Bay

The secluded village, which is hidden from the main road, has only a handful of permanent residents therefore providing a quieter than average retreat. Due to the popularity of property within the bay, accommodation can be limited as many cottages provide second homes to seasonal occupants. However, you can generally find a place to stay within a short walk of the bay itself.Runswick Bay
Runswick BayThe fine sandy beach with good surf is a popular destination for sunbathers, swimmers and surfers alike. Another feature which draws many enthusiasts are the rugged cliffs, perforated by caves or 'hob holes' which were reputedly occupied by hobgoblins, but are in fact home to many fine fossil specimens. The views from the bay to Kettleness are magnificent and with its quaint fishing cottages and traditional appeal, Runswick Bay is a picture postcard resort where many artists come from all over the world to paint the views.
Less than 10 miles from Whitby and with Sleights having the nearest railway station 6 miles away, this tiny secluded village is still easily accesible; just off the A174. There is a hotel in the bay which offers great accommodation and there are many self-catering holiday cottages. Whitby has lots more to offer the visitor with plenty of musuems, restaurants, history, legends and myths just 10 miles down the road.
